Tooth in Advertising

Every time I go to the local Carmike cinema and watch their pre-show reminders montage, I wind up thinking about dentists. First they show King Kong howling with those yellowish fangs – he needs a veterinary dentist. Then it's the pirates of the Caribbean; they have gold teeth so they need dentists too. Then there's a lot of people drinking Coke, and they'll need lots of dentists, except the one guy who's about to take a sip when his girlfriend jumps and yanks it away from him; he probably won't. Then there's Arnold in T2 (nice contemporary-film reference); he gets into a lot of fights so he probably needs a dentist. And last of course, they show Harry Potter, who's British.

Most people wouldn't find anything to celebrate in weighing four hundred pounds. But when you're above that and working your way down, and that number is as high as your scale will go, it's a good milestone to cross. I've weighed more than this for at least four years (how long I've had the scale), and it feels good to know that I've dropped whatever weight I've put on during that time. Go »My Dinner with Amy
